About KrigorStudio

The Krigor Standard: A Message from Our Founders

For over two decades, our lives have been written on ice—from the intense pressure of World Championships to the creative exhilaration of touring the globe. We learned that true mastery in figure skating lives in the powerful intersection of technical precision, artistic expression, and intelligent athleticism.

At Krigor Studio, we’ve built more than a school—we’ve created an ecosystem of excellence where these pillars unite.

Our philosophy is simple: Every skater, from a child’s first glide to an elite athlete’s final polish, deserves a training environment that is as professional, passionate, and purposeful as the sport itself. That is why we surround our students with a faculty of the highest caliber—from champion skaters to Broadway choreographers—because we believe exposure to greatness inspires greatness.

We are not just teaching jumps and spins; we are cultivating the complete performer: strong, expressive, resilient, and artistically profound. Whether the goal is personal joy or an Olympic podium, our method is the same: clarity in instruction, creativity in approach, and unwavering support in execution.

This is the standard we skated by. This is the standard we teach by. This is the Krigor Standard.

Welcome to our studio.

 Your Skating Journey: FAQ

Figure Skating Journey: From First Steps to Professional Sport

  • For parents whose children have never skated before or are just starting out.

Q: My child wants to learn how to skate. Where do we begin?
A: Welcome! At KrigorStudio, we believe a proper start is the key to long-term success. We are proud partners of the Montclair State University Ice Arena, which offers an exceptional Learn-to-Skate program. This is the perfect first step: your child will learn the fundamentals—balance, safety, and basic gliding—in a fun and structured group environment.

Q: What is the best age to start?
A: Based on our experience at KrigorStudio, the ideal age to start is between 3 and 5 years old. Children at this age are very flexible and develop coordination quickly. However, it’s never too late to start!

Q: Do we need to buy professional skates immediately?
A: Not yet. For the initial stages, you can use the rental skates available at Montclair State University Ice Arena. Once your child develops a passion and advances through the levels, KrigorStudio experts will consult you on choosing the right pair of boots and blades to ensure proper ankle support and safety.

  • For parents whose children have exhausted the Learn-to-Skate program and are looking for serious direction.

Q: My child loves skating and has completed all the Learn-to-Skate levels. What’s next?
A: Once you’ve exhausted the basic program, it’s time to move from "recreation" to "sport." KrigorStudio specializes in bridging this gap. Now you must choose a specific discipline: Single Skating (focused on jumping) or Ice Dance (focused on edges, rhythm, and artistry).

Q: How do we decide between Jumps (Singles) and Dancing (Ice Dance)?
A: At KrigorStudio, we evaluate your child’s physical strengths and temperament. If your child is explosive and loves to jump, Single Skating is the path. If they are artistic, have a great ear for music, and prefer speed and deep edges, Ice Dance is the perfect fit.

Q: We want to compete. How do we start that journey?
A: Once you choose a direction, we create a personalized training plan. KrigorStudio prepares athletes for their first official US Figure Skating competitions, including program choreography and music selection.

  • For those who have chosen the Ice Dance direction and want to understand their competitive options.

Q: We’ve chosen Ice Dance. What are the two main ways to compete?
A: There are two distinct paths within this discipline, and we support athletes in both:

    1. Solo Ice Dance: Your child trains and competes individually. This is a rapidly growing discipline with National and International competition opportunities, recognized by the ISU. It’s perfect for developing independence and flawless technique.

    2. Couples Ice Dance: The classic Olympic discipline. This involves skating with a partner, focusing on teamwork, lifts, and synchronization. It opens doors to the U.S. Championships, Grand Prix series, and Olympic dreams.

Q: Can we switch between Solo and Couples dance?
A: Absolutely. Many skaters start in Solo Ice Dance to build a strong technical foundation. When they are ready (and the right partner is found), we assist with Try-outs and partnership matching to transition them into Couples Ice Dance.

Q: How does KrigorStudio help with finding a partner?
A: Finding a partner is a professional process. We use our industry network and databases to conduct Try-outs, evaluating technical compatibility, height, and psychological synergy to create the most successful duo possible.
