Angela Cusumano Perez: A Life in Dance and Dedication

Angela Cusumano Perez grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and later moved to New Jersey, where she currently resides. From a young age, Angela demonstrated a passion for dance, beginning her training at the tender age of five. Dance has remained a cornerstone of her life, shaping her career and personal journey.

Angela's theater credits are extensive and impressive, showcasing her versatility and talent in productions such as "Crazy For You," "Cabaret," "Sweet Charity," "The King and I," "West Side Story," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," and "In the Heights." Her professional career includes performances in the Shiny Disco Ball Tour for Subliminal Records, with the Push Factor Dance Company, and ICONIC. She has also graced the stage at Six Flags Great Adventure in shows like "Deadman’s Party," "Tiger Show," "Industrial Movement," and "World of Magic." Additionally, Angela has participated in Tubway's "In Living Color: Fly Girl Tribute," KTU's Beatstock, and has performed as a Britney Spears impersonator.

Her talents extend beyond the stage to the screen, with appearances as a featured dancer in the film "Chinna Cinema" and on Paula Abdul's "Live to Dance." Angela's expertise and experience have made her a sought-after adjudicator, serving at Piscataway High School and DECAdance Dance Competitions. She has also been on the faculty for the ARB’s DANCEPOWER programs, founded by Gregory Hines, DanzJam Dance Conventions, Zumba Fitness, and has taught at numerous dance studios throughout New Jersey.

Angela's choreography credits are equally impressive, with work for the University of Delaware, Rider University, and Middlesex County College. She was nominated in 2018 for Outstanding Choreography at the NJACT Perry Awards for her work on "Smokey Joe’s Café." Angela is a two-time NJACT Perry Award winner for Outstanding Choreography for her work on "Altar Boyz" (2017) and "In the Heights" (2023). Most recently, she returns to choreograph another production of "In The Heights" at Plays in the Park in Edison, NJ, running from July 10th to July 20th.

In addition to her choreography career, Angela works full-time as the Tower Cleaning Coordinator for an East Coast-based Water Treatment Company. Despite her numerous accomplishments and accolades, Angela finds her most fulfilling role to be that of a wife to her amazing husband, Dan, and a loving mother to their son, Dominick.

Angela’s dance classes are known for their eclectic range, including hip hop, street jazz, musical theater, jazz funk, and Latin fusion. While she emphasizes technique, her primary goal is for her students to have fun, sweat, and leave feeling accomplished. Angela Cusumano Perez's journey in dance is marked by dedication, passion, and an unwavering commitment to her craft and her family.
