Event Overview

NYCe Cold Summer 2024 is an immersive three-day event designed specifically for adult figure skating enthusiasts. It will be held from July 26th to July 28th at the Montclair State University Ice Arena. This event offers a comprehensive program that includes on-ice clinics, private lessons, freestyle sessions, social events, and educational talks, catering to skaters of all skill levels.

Daily Schedule

*On-ice Clinics:*- Participants will have the opportunity to attend seven on-ice clinics each day. These clinics will cover various aspects of figure skating, from basic techniques to advanced skills. Expert coaches will provide personalized guidance to help skaters improve their performance.

*Private Lessons:*- For those seeking one-on-one attention, private lessons will be available. Skaters can work closely with experienced instructors to focus on specific areas they wish to enhance.

*Freestyle Sessions:*- Open freestyle sessions will allow participants to practice independently and apply what they've learned during the clinics and lessons.

Social Events

*Opening Ice Dance Social:* - The event will kick off with an Opening Ice Dance Social, providing an opportunity for participants to review ice dance patterns, meet eachother, and many of the weekend's coaches. Share their passion for figure skating in a relaxed and friendly environment.

*Closing Social:* - The weekend will conclude with a Closing Social. This event will be a celebration of the skills and friendships developed over the weekend, featuring an session where participants can showcase their talents in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Educational & Off-ice Activities

*Off-ice Clinics:*- In addition to on-ice activities, two off-ice clinics will be conducted. These sessions might include off-ice conditioning, stretching, dance, or other activities that support on-ice performance.

Meals & Accommodation

*Lunches Included:*- Catered lunches will be provided daily, featuring a balanced menu that includes a protein, pasta, and salad. A vegetarian option will be available to accommodate dietary preferences.

*On-campus Dorms:*- Efforts are underway to arrange on-campus dormitory accommodations, providing a convenient and affordable option for attendees.

Trips/Excursions: New York City: A train ride or drive of less than an hour will bring you into Manhattan. Many popular destinations are open and accepting visitors, including the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Modern Art, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, shopping in Times Square, and tons of fantastic restaurants.

Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore: Spend a day in the sun and visit the famous Jersey Shore. The many different beaches New Jersey has to offer feature picturesque views, boardwalks, shops, excursions for fishing or dolphin watching, restaurants, and, of course, lots of waves and sand!

Grounds for Sculpture

Grounds for Sculpture: Located in Hamilton, NJ, Grounds for Sculpture boasts 42 acres of outdoor and indoor artwork on display. The work on display is from artists around the world, and exhibits change seasonally. Pinot’s Palette: For those looking for a more hands-on activity to fill their free time, check out a BYO painting night. Close by in Montclair, NJ, drink some wine or a cocktail while you create a hand-painted souvenir to take home. Check out their schedule, with a different painting each night.

Shopping

Shopping: A variety of shopping options are available nearby. In Montclair within 5 minutes from the arena, Church Street and Valley Road both include a variety of boutiques, bakeries, and restaurants. Local malls include the American Dream in East Rutherford, which includes shops, restaurants, a theme park, an ice rink, and more, as well as traditional malls such as the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne and Garden State Plaza in Paramus.

Outdoor Activities and Sightseeing

Van Vleck House and Gardens: Montclair’s Van Vleck property dates back to the 1800s, and the house on the property was built in 1916 in the style of a Mediterranean villa. Today, visitors can walk through the grounds, which are filled with gardens boasting a variety of different beautiful flowers and atmospheres.

Garret Mountain Reservation: Garret Mountain has trails popular for jogging and hiking, as well as grass fields, a picnic area, pond with fish, and an Equestrian Center. New Jersey Jackals at Yogi Berra Stadium: Watch the New Jersey Jackals professional baseball team take on the Wild Things on July 16, 17, or 18. The Montclair area is home to tons of delicious restaurants with great theming and atmosphere. One of note is the new MC Hotel, which houses the Alto rooftop bar and lounge with fabulous views of New York City, as well as the MC’s signature restaurant, Allegory, which has a shared-plate, multi-course format. Local breweries include Cricket Hill Brewing Co. in Fairfield, Montclair Brewery in Montclair, and Ghost Hawk Brewing Company in Clifton, all of which have options for indoor and outdoor seating and allow food to be brought in or delivered to enjoy while you drink!
